A walk or bike down one of the many country lanes is an experience, where you get to see village traditions and lifestyle in its own pace. You come across farmers working their fields, little children playing, women cleaning houses and gardens, waving children inside schools, the odd job man, a drunken individual, boys playing cards, carrom or cricket. Beetle chewing most of them would welcome you with a ‘hi’, smile or wave.

A few names you would come across in the village are: Sethan Singho, Wilman, Eatin Singho, Babynona, Nandani, Anjula, Piya Bappa, Sugathaan, Sanjula, Ariyaratne, Sudu Hamine, Dampi Atha, Padmawathi & Kaluaracchie.

Farming and quarrying is the main source of income for most, whereas the rest take-up work in the nearby cities. A few mechanics, masons, and shopkeepers are also found along the way. Apart from tea, all other export crops are grown in the countryside. Rubber, Coconut, Paddy, spices, Banana, Pineapples and a variety of fruits take root here, thanks to a fertile and moist soil. The nearness to Colombo makes trading easy as well as fetch decent prices too.

Everyone or almost has an evening bath and are attired in fresh clothing. With fresh picked flowers they worship the Bo tree, an image of the Buddha or visit the temple. On a poya day or full moon day, everyone is out, visiting the village temple.
