the venerable Kinigama Ananda Himi, is the custodian
of Pilikuttuwa, and has done so for 38 years. In
an area of around 200 acres, which consists of 1
of the 2% natural forest reserve found in the Gampaha
district, together with 99 caves comprises this
ancient temple. A dolawa or palanquin belonging
to the Venerable Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala, used in
1890 is also found here as is a picturesque dagoba
situated within a cave.
However the most treasured inscription lies almost
at the top of this mountain, where on the outside
of the Manorame cave lays the carving in Asoka Aksara
“ The gift of Aggibhuti, brother of cavalry
officer, to the sangha of the four directions, present
and absent.” |
